About the 2022 Art Show Juror
Alexandra Nicholis Coon
Alexandra Nicholis Coon, executive director for the Massillon Museum, holds a BA in art history from Kent State University, an MA in art history through the joint program at the Cleveland Museum of Art and Case Western Reserve University, and a collections care certificate from the Campbell Center for Historic Preservation Studies. She has been with the Massillon Museum since 2001 and served as its curator from 2003 to 2010. Nicholis Coon served as president for the Ohio Museums Association board from 2017-2019, and is currently the board chair for Visit Canton. She serves as a board member of the Cleveland Print Room, Massillon WestStark Chamber Foundation, Aultman Health Foundation, and Soroptimist International of Canton/Stark County, and is a member of the City of Massillon’s Community Improvement Corporation. Museum Advocacy is near and dear to her heart; she has joined museum colleagues nationwide on Capitol Hill for seven years now as part of the American Alliance of Museums Advocacy Day, and communicates regularly with elected officials at the state and local levels.
Her love of photography led her to curate Darkrooms in a Digital Age (2007) and Between Two Worlds: The Photography of Nell Dorr (2010) for the Massillon Museum, among numerous other exhibitions. Coon has curated two exhibitions for the Ohio Arts Council’s Riffe Gallery in Columbus as well. While serving as an instructor of art history and museum studies courses at Walsh University, she assisted with establishment of the university’s museum studies undergraduate program in 2007. She enjoys digital photography and earned honorable mention in the Professional Women Photographer’s 37th International Women’s Call for Entry (2012), and has been exhibited in several Northeast Ohio shows. From 2018-2010, she led a renovation effort of the Massillon Museum’s collections storage facility, upgrading it to a state-of-the-art, award-winning preservation space, and most recently oversaw the Museum’s $6 million dollar expansion to increase its capacity to serve the community by 18,000 square feet. In 2011, she was recognized with the YStark! “Twenty Under 40” award, was a 2012 inductee to the Canton YWCA Women’s Hall of Fame, in 2020 was honored with the DeHoff Emerging Philanthropist Award, and in 2021 with the Soroptimist International Midwestern Region Outstanding Soroptimist Award. She is a member of the Akron Chapter DAR, and resides in North Canton with her husband and twin daughters.
2D and 3D visual artworks, including photography, will be submitted for consideration for placement in the show by artists across the country between October 15 and January 15. In addition to choosing the pieces in the show, Ms. Coon will also award 3 prizes: 1 $1000 Best in Show award and 2 additional $500 Excellence awards. We cannot wait to work with Alex!

COVID-Related Event Information
The Bryn Du Art Show will abide by all local, state and national guidelines regarding the holding of events in the time of the coronavirus pandemic. We recognize that there is no way to anticipate whether or not the 18th Annual Bryn Du Art Show will be able to be held in a traditional format, although that is what we are currently planning for. If deemed necessary by the staff and Board of Directors, Bryn Du reserves the right to make the show a hybrid in-person/virtual event. A hybrid art show will physically display artworks in the Mansion but could be limited in number of individuals allowed to enter the show at a time and may reduce the number of art show related events held in-person. Regardless of the type of show that is held, all artists submitting work to be considered for the show will agree to the decisions made and adjust accordingly.
By choosing to submit art to the show for consideration you are acknowledging and agreeing to the above guidelines.
