About the 2023
Art Show Juror
Ken Emerick
Ken Emerick was the former Ohio Arts Council’s (OAC) Director of Artist Programs and the Ohio Percent for Art Program. For 35 years he assisted with the coordination and direction of the OAC’s Individual Excellence Awards and had facilitated a number of artist residency exchanges for the OAC with the following national and international artist residency programs: Headlands Center for the Arts, Sausalito, California; Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Massachusetts; Vermont Studio Center, Johnson, Vermont; and a printmaking exchange partnership between the OAC, Zygote Press, Cleveland, Ohio and the Grafikwerkstatt Artist Residency, City of Dresden, Germany. The OAC’s Ohio Percent for Art Program provides funds for the acquisition, commission and installation of permanent artwork for new or renovated public buildings funded through the State of Ohio. Emerick assisted sites with the development of their projects, including the artist call-for-entry and selection processes. Other OAC Artist Program responsibilities managed by Emerick include the coordination of artwork at the Ohio Governor’s Residence and the Governor’s Offices located in the Vern Riffe Center for Government and the Arts, selection of the artwork for the Ohio Governor’s Awards in the Arts, and the selection of the OAC’s annual awards presented at the Ohio State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition. He has been a juror for a variety of exhibitions and artist awards for numerous Ohio arts organizations, colleges and universities. Emerick received the 2011 Outstanding Achievement Award from the Ohio Designer Craftsmen for his service to the field. Upon his retirement from the OAC, Emerick was recognized by Ohio Governor John R. Kasich and First Lady Karen W. Kasich for his 35 years of service to the State of Ohio and to the Ohio Arts Council. Emerick is a graduate of Otterbein University located in Westerville, Ohio.
2D and 3D visual artworks, including photography, will be submitted for consideration for placement in the show by artists across the country between October 15 and January 15. In addition to choosing the pieces in the show, Mr. Emerick will also award 3 prizes: 1 $1000 Best in Show award and 2 additional $500 Excellence awards. We cannot wait to work with Ken!
