Service Description

Uncover the rich history and personal significance of masks in this immersive summer camp tailored for teens. From ancient rituals to contemporary art, masks have served as powerful tools for storytelling, identity, and transformation across cultures. In the first half of the camp, students will delve into the art of life casting, partnering to create their own plaster gauze masks. This hands-on process introduces foundational sculptural techniques and fosters collaboration. The second half shifts focus to introspection and creativity. Participants will personalize their masks, reflecting on aspects of themselves they wish to express or celebrate. Through guided discussions and artistic exploration, students will consider how masks can reveal hidden facets of identity and emotion. Combining art history, technical skill-building, and personal expression, this camp offers a unique opportunity for teens to explore the intersection of culture and self through the timeless medium of mask-making. Materials Provided by Instructor: All casting materials and supplies for adornment will be supplied. Material List for Student: We will discuss optional sentimental or personal things that students may want to bring from home to add to their masks during the first few classes. But this is not necessary to a meaningful final product.
