10:00am-3:00pm
Saturday, January 26, 2019
$95
Limited to 10
Registration closes January 25

A great beginning to the "pure pigment" medium, this workshop will load you up with information about this richly colored medium, including methods, materials, resources and techniques. You'll enjoy the morning demonstration, the experimentation with two primary methods of using pastel, and the 3 ½ hr studio time with personal instruction. Bring photos you'd like to use as a resource, and we'll provide some too. We'll conclude with an informal critique and information about framing pastels. Most students take home at least two finished paintings from this workshop. Though it's designed for beginners, experienced pastelists can join the fun. Why not bring a friend who is new to the medium?!

Supplies: $10 to instructor for sheet of sanded support; plan to spend $60 to $100 on pastels; please see attached supply list.

This is an open studio for high school students looking for more time, space and instruction to explore their expanding artistic interests. The teacher is prepared to design the structure of this class based around the students’ desired objectives. Students are encouraged to bring in any materials or projects they would like to work on. Roughly, the class will consist of at least four working sessions, where students can work on whatever project they would like, while receiving private instruction at some point in the session. One of the sessions will be group critiques, an important exercise for budding artists to talk about their work and give/ receive constructive criticism from their peers. This class is designed to be built around the students! Anything goes from individual work time, to lectures, to group painting or drawing lessons. Students are required to provide all of their own supplies based on the projects they wish to work on; paint, drawing boards, drawing utensils, paper, etc. Students can email instructor ahead of time if they need recommendations on specific supplies. (Please email instructor Jennifer Murray or Angela if you have any questions regarding the format of this class.) Please note: There will be no class on 3/24 or 3/31 due to local Spring Break.
