Are you hoping for a brand new camera for the holidays? Join us for this 4 week course and learn how to use it! We will focus on the introductory aspects of digital photography and how to use a D-SLR camera with manual adjustments. Students will learn in a hands-on environment by executing specific projects pertaining to basic camera controls such as Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO. The class will also explore composition through the Principles and Elements of Design and observing some of the great photographic masters throughout history. Participants will engage in a semi-formal critique of their images and end the course with an exhibition of their work in the Eddie Wolfe Gallery. Students are required to bring their own D-SLR camera. Please email our professional photography instructor for more information.

This is NOT your Grandma’s cross-stitching class! Did you know that stitching by hand is naturally meditative and contemplative? Hand-stitching can also create interesting textured lines and complex patterns that are ripe for artistic play. In this course, you will be guided, through a series of exercises to explore how your stitched lines and the thoughts that arise during this moving meditation can be combined to form small works of fiber art. All levels of experience are welcome! Most materials provided and are included in cost of class. Please bring a small pair of embroidery scissors, thimble, and small embroidery hoop (see attached materials list for details).

Drawing is the basis for MANY art forms, and no matter what your favorite, it is good practice to DRAW! This series is designed to be an overview of drawing techniques, methods and materials, and covers everything from how to hold the drawing tools to creating values and contrast.  We'll even include the basics of composition. We'll move from work with still objects as subjects to work with live models while experiencing various drawing materials. Outside assignments will be recommended and we'll have informal evaluations to sharpen our vison! Class topics will include: Learning to see, studies using charcoal, studies using graphite, studies using ink and unique drawing methods and materials; mixed media finale. Supply list will be provided on registration, but plan to spend around $25 or $30 for supplies.

This course is recommended as a basis for Meredith's other drawing courses, JOY OF CHARCOAL, and EXPERIMENTAL DRAWING which will be offered at the Art Center in the near future.

A great beginning to the "pure pigment" medium, this workshop will load you up with information about this richly colored medium, including methods, materials, resources and techniques. You'll enjoy the morning demonstration, the experimentation with two primary methods of using pastel, and the 3 ½ hr studio time with personal instruction. Bring photos you'd like to use as a resource, and we'll provide some too. We'll conclude with an informal critique and information about framing pastels. Most students take home at least two finished paintings from this workshop. Though it's designed for beginners, experienced pastelists can join the fun. Why not bring a friend who is new to the medium?!

Supplies: $10 to instructor for sheet of sanded support; plan to spend $60 to $100 on pastels; please see attached supply list.

Enjoy this in-depth look at a surprisingly exciting drawing process utilizing wax, acrylic paint and ink! This workshop helps you define tonality in your work, clarify drawing elements, and will help you with the process of planning a composition, even though you’ll hardly be aware you’re doing it! Experienced and inexperienced artists can enjoy wax resist since results are not necessarily determined by drawing or painting skill, but rather a willingness to focus on value, shape and line, and welcome the unexpected. In fact, students say the results seem ‘magical’! All supplies are included in the fee!
