Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit On Site Now
The Bryn Du Mansion is proud to announce a free, sculpture exhibit to be held outdoors on the lawn around the Bryn Du Art Center this summer and fall. Award-winning artist, Robert Porreca, is pleased to call his work back from all over the country for his first solo show in his own “backyard”.
Although Mr. Porreca is a professionally trained artist with a masters degree in sculpture and woodworking, eight years ago he found himself experimenting with resins and cloth, beyond the scope of his formal education. Using his previously created smaller sculptures as reference, he endeavored to produce the largest outdoor sculpture possible, without the need for heavy industrial moving equipment. Despite the many technical issues, the results were astounding.
Large sculptures opened new exhibition opportunities for this Columbus-based artist. His work has been leased out to cities and towns across America. As a result, more and more people get to experience Porreca’s unique and often whimsical artworks. “I’m pleased my sculptures are received well across the country but also very thankful my wife, Stephanie, and I have the opportunity to travel to parts known and unknown in our country. It’s been a wonderful and fun experience,” says Porreca.
Since partnering with Bryn Du for this exhibit, instead of sending work out of the area, Porreca has been bringing his work home. Some pieces needed a good cleaning or minor repairs in anticipation of showing so many of them all in one place. Now ready to be exhibited again, these unique pieces will grace the gorgeous Bryn Du Mansion grounds. ”The Bryn Du Commission is thrilled to be able to bring Robert’s work for viewing to the public locally. All are invited to stroll the grounds outside of our Art Center while admiring these really cool works of art. We think the Bryn Du grounds provide for a truly special background for Mr. Porreca’s masterpieces,” said Bryn Du Executive Director, Bruce Cramer. “We are simply thrilled to be able to exhibit his work for the very first time in Central Ohio.”
Mr. Porreca’s exhibit will be on site at Bryn Du beginning the last week of July until the end of September 2020, and the pieces will be available for purchase. There is no charge to view the exhibit and it is open to the public.
